Long body gear that increases in length as the game progresses. The head takes critical damage, but the body segments take reduced damage.

How about size affecting the number of segments the body has?
Maybe the tail isn't the player's health pool and shoots the player's projectiles at whoever damages or destroys each segment?
Nice.. How would the shield and thrust work when its all oblong or S shaped? Size should be related to how many mods, and reproduction of segments should be by "upgrade levels" that way you can regain length.Still not sure on the shields, I guess it would S around with the snake, I'm used to circles I guess. I would guess you thrust from under the head so the body can straighten out. The poor drones will have to walk a mile to orbit the ship. Neck or tail, Scorching Wake/Deadly Wake?
The segments could actually be constructs, and damage is redirected towards the last segment, unless taken to the head.
The head could be the main ship - the source of thrust, shield, wakes, etc - but the tail trails behind and can be "hit", but is not considered part of the ship for orbiting. The tail spawns, grows longer (scaling with size and hull), and releases projectiles when hit. If a segment is cut off, it becomes a construct.
I love the concept! I can see this working well as a body gear, or as a construct mod. To solve the issue of "where do drones/shields go" they could even make sense as a 3rd drone type, though I'd rather see it be a recursive wild mod so you can grow insanely long while taking some risky debuff for each one.

The body needs a rework. It is highly detrimental when more than one DoT effect is affecting the body. The fact that late game sometimes 10+ DoT effects are roaming the map and the body gets bigger and bigger with each level it is only a matter of time the player just dies without being able to do anything. Feels like you work towards your own destruction. Maybe add a DoT immunity to the segments but increase the collision and projectile dmg it receives.
